Eighth graders discussed their personal experiences surrounding the prison system and learned about the racial disparities in the system, the issue of bail keeping people in county jails despite being innocent, and recidivism. They additionally read various excerpts of books written by incarcerated people while in prison.

We hosted this event at Menlo School. We filtered the books donated by the students for the ones that are allowed in prisons. Camy from Wisconsin Books to Prisoners and Patricia from Inside Books Project additionally spoke about their efforts to support incarcerated people.
